Before selecting your lodges online, you should know something about the Kruger ecosystem. The official National Park is surrounded by a lot of private game concessions where many of the lodges reside. The area is vast and driving speed is limited, meaning you might see two dots on a map that appear fairly close, while in reality, you spend a full day going from one point to the next without optimal game viewing opportunities.

There might be true gems out there that are not covered in our favored portfolio. The main reason is often their location in or around the park is less than favorable, or their lack of ability to facilitate a private game drive experience with your own vehicle, which is the beating heart of our unique value. If you have to drive for one hour from your lodge to the nearest Kruger Park gate, you will lose valuable game viewing time in both mornings and evenings, which are the best hours of the day to see many of the more impressive animals, such as big cats and other predators. Our selection of favored lodges take all of these factors into account.

Being experts in the safari industry for over 10 years before founding Touched by nature®, we know what to look for in order for you to have the best possible experience. The lodges in our favored portfolio, however, have passed our frequent tests in the excellence of service, overall quality and all other aspects a lodge should excel at. All of them are boutique luxury lodges that only house a small number of guests. They are also optimally positioned in and around the Kruger National Park, to facilitate a smooth transfer between lodges without losing precious time and allowing you to experience different areas within the park. Located in the far north of the park, The Outpost offers a truly unique experience. It’s an awarded architectural gem where you stay in one of 12 luxury spaces perched on a hillside, overlooking the Luvuvhu River. An unmatched 180° view of the wilderness awaits. The suites are called ‘spaces’ because they are open on 3 sides, allowing the air to pass through as you take a bath or fall asleep, listening to the sounds of nature.

Jock Safari Lodge

Located in the southern center of the park, Jock Safari Lodge is a carefully preserved value that finds its roots all the way back to the pioneering days. Today the lodge offers a five-star luxury experience with all modern comforts. Located on the point where 2 rivers meet, Jock hosts 12 thatched suites with private and uninterrupted riverbed views. Each suite has a private deck with a plunge pool and outdoor day bed.

Situated near Skukuza, this elevated sanctuary offers a thought-provoking experience, suspended over the Sabie River. Shalati offers modern luxurious comfort within a carefully restored train, where each carriage serves as a suite. The scene is set on top of the historic Selati bridge, where the first ever visitors to the Kruger in the 1920’s, entered the park. As a guest you can opt to stay in one of the 24 carriage suites or one of 7 bridge house suites.
